  1. These are much modified versions of encode/decode. I code 3 bytes into
  2. 4 characters. This can be done with a 64 character set (3*8 == 4*6) which
  3. should pass through any network without translation. The character set I
  4. use is so innocuous that no checksums, etc. are necessary.
